Call to Action! Join is on 4/17/21 at 11am NYC To demand TIAA divest from Climate Chaos
The TIAA Divest from Climate Destruction campaign celebrates the 8th campus Resolution pushing TIAA to divest from fossil fuels and from land grabs leading to deforestation and human rights abuses (SUNY Stony Brook). Now, after a long year of digital organizing, it’s time to bring our campaign to the streets. On Saturday 4/17 at 11AM we invite you to join our socially distanced outdoor rally in front of TIAA’s offices at 108th and Broadway.
Please tell your NYC area friends and allies: We’ll provide signs, banners and organization. We need live humans to show up in person, wearing masks, to hold them and show our solidarity with all communities impacted by TIAA’s environmental racism and climate destruction.
We call on TIAA to stop using over $8 billion in pension funds to finance climate chaos through companies like Enbridge. Enbridge is the company trying to build Line 3, through unceded Anishinaabe land in Minnesota. The Anishinaabe and allied Water Protectors are putting up a fierce resistance and need our help. Line 3 would carry 1 million gallons of tar sands crude/day, if built.
Simultaneous actions at multiple institutions that finance climate chaos, with the theme “Bankrupt Line 3!” will happen in Manhattan on 4/17. We’ll all converge at 12:30pm at BlackRock at (55 East 51St.) for a rally Stop the Money Pipeline coalition rally.
Stop the Money Pipeline is a national alliance of organizations focusing on key financial institutions that fund fossil fuel and related industries, including: CHASE, Bank of America, TD, BlackRock, Wells Fargo and Liberty Mutual. Extinction Rebellion, 350NYC, 350Brooklyn, Rise and Resist, NY Communities for Change and TIAA-DIVEST! are among the participating organizations.
