TIAA annuities come in several varieties, identified by these codes on your statement, and the code determines how easily you can move your money. Roughly speaking: RA (Retirement Annuity) and GRA (Group Retirement Annuity) are the most restrictive, usually requiring the slow installment method. RC (Retirement Choice) and RCP (Retirement Choice Plus) are newer and somewhat more flexible. SRA (Supplemental Retirement Annuity) and GSRA (Group Supplemental Retirement Annuity) are generally the easiest to move. Finding your contract type is the essential first step before making any decision about an annuity.
